Asteroids Million Mile Mission
Get your friends to join our mailing list to follow the Asteroid Bicycles journey.
The UK is not the best for cycle lanes, however it does have a network of 2000miles bridle ways that link to slow roads. Asteroid Bicycles have developed our Adventure Cargo Bike to handle the off-road bridal way network. We think this is a good place to start, so Asteroid has set a challenge to log 1 million e-Cargo Bike miles in 5years.
Asteroids Impact
Public right of ways (bridleways and byways) are often surrounded by hedge rows and are a natural corridor for wildlife. Bridleways and byways need preservation as they act as natures corridors. For Every cargo bike sold Asteroid will contribute 5% to a "Public right of way Regeneration Fund" to help with the replanting of native trees, creating more nesting environments for British birds. This regeneration fund will also improve and extend this network.
Solutions for the UK.
We are launching the Adventure model with 26inch wheels front and back, but we also make the 20inch wheel versions. We have designed Asteroid Bicycles to be really versatile. Because of the ability to change, we are not sure what customers are actually going to order. So, we are remaining flexible, if you want to change at a later date, we can swap the front end and refurbish your old for a new lease of life. Asteroid Bikes are packed with design innovations, but did you know that we manufacture most of our bikes in the UK?
Design Highlights:
- Hub Steering reduces the wobble, making this front loader easier and safer to ride than a longtail. Hub Steering allows us to add racks either side of the front wheel, for carrying long items.
- Split-frame was designed to make manufacturing and shipping easier. However this is now a feature allowing you to dock and un-dock the frame sections easily, without uncoupling the steering.
- Changeable motor mounting brackets.
- Nested laser cut floating Disc Brakes
- Easy modular Rack and accessory fitting system
Manufactured in the UK:
Manufactured in the UK, not just "Assembled in the UK" (like other brands)...
At Asteroid HQ we know that by using tube laser cutting we can compete with China on prices. UK labour is expensive, but laser profiling saves time and adds digital accuracy.
- Birmingham Steel: We get our BST45 steel milled in the UK, near Birmingham. Some of the BST45 tubes get sent to Worthing, to be bent into hoops for chainstays.
- Birmingham Tube Laser cutting: The larger diameter then get sent to the other side of Birmingham, where it gets laser cut into production profiles for the main frames.
- Newhaven: CNC automated lathes. After our Hub Steering was prototyped and tested, we made some design changes to reduce rider wobble and improve manufacturing speed.
- Bexhill & Birmingham: CNC flat laser and water-jet cutters We have designed our NEW Rear sliding dropout, based on Flat-mount brakes, but backward engineered for IS and PM. We also nest out disc rotors 180mm fits inside a 225mm floating rotor.
- Worthing: Some of the BST45 tubes get sent to Worthing, to be bent into hoops for chainstays. The laser cut BST45 tubes get trucked down to Worthing where it joins the bent hoops to get TIG welded.
We are launching with the Pinion MGU, as we can run all models with Gates CDX Carbondrive Belts. We know that riding Off-road (or British roads in general) means that you need a belt-drive drivetrain and reliable components. For that reason, Asteroid are the first UK manufacturer to use the Pinion MGU, and we are about to place orders on Pinion's UK service centre.
